RED WINE 2008

WINE

Inspired by the traditional way of making wine, Quinta das Carrafouchas result of passionate work of its people, the earth and the art of treating the wine and the vineyard. Licensed since 1932, only since 1954 that it began to produce white wine which was sold in bulk. After deployment of new varieties and strains of remodeling the conduction of the vineyard is at present the closest to the center of Lisbon private vineyard. We opted for lusas castes: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Arinto that are, where appropriate, drizzled with pure water from the mine. To optimize the quality, the harvesting is done manually and placed in boxes of 20 kg in order to ensure the correct transport to the winery. This wine comes from a concept of top quality and that is why we only see the light of day in years when all factors allow.

Tinta Roriz

is known as Tinta Roriz in northern Portugal (Douro and Dão) and how Aragonez, or Aragonese, in the south (Alentejo and Ribatejo) or as Abundant in the Lisbon Region.

It is an Iberian grape used in both countries and in Spain is mainly known for Tempranillo, but also by Cencibel in La Mancha, Ull de Llebre Catalonia, Tinta de Toro in Toro Tinta del Pais and Tinto Fino in Ribera del Duero and Tinta Madrid in the Spanish capital vineyards

This huge geographical dispersion is due to be a very vigorous and productive variety that easily adapts to different climates and soils, although with different results.

The origin of its name Aragonez (or Aragonese) is related to the origin: one that is of Aragon. On the other hand the most common Spanish name, Tempranillo, originating from the region of Rioja is associated to a very early variety (or early - in Spanish temprana)

Not an easy caste, but usually give quality productions in difficult years. Why tend to have low acidity is usually used as caste batch, to give balance to the wine. There are even those who say that shows its best when used well.

Touriga Nacional

is the best known and praised the great caste caste Portuguese Lusitanian ink. It's the "ex-libris" of Portuguese viticulture. A noble caste in various conditions, soils and climates, always leaves its mark, producing distinctive wines with great quality and strong personality.

His virtues were not always recognized. Until 1980, Touriga Nacional was wronged because their production is small. Originally from Dan, your area of vineyards has been decreasing, until the market changed and started demanding quality wines and not quantity.

It was then that the Touriga Nacional began to be planted again in Dan, spread to the Douro and then to the South. Today it is present in all regions of Portugal demarcated and is now also grown in other countries.

The bunches are small, medium compact, the berries are too small, rounded, black-blue color. The output is only 1 to 1.5 kilograms per strain.

Touriga Nacional varietal produces great wines, and enjoys any lot you enter. It is a generous, noble and delicada.Como everything is fine and dandy, needs to be treated with special care caste. The Touriga Nacional wine impresses with intense color and the floral aromas predominantly violet, ripe berries and resinous reminding cistus, a very common plant in the Douro. In the mouth the tannins are powerful and robust, but at the same time delicate, fine and elegant. With all these qualities, Touriga Nacional wines could not fail to have a great potential for development in the bottle.

Arinto grape

largely grown in the Douro from Portugal Alentejo is the main grape Bucelas and one of the finest and most appropriate for the formation of white wines pasture delicate and aromatic, without leaving lost under the impression an alcoholic exaggerated note that bears no let stand his qualities of grace, freshness and fragrance.

In the airy, with good sun exposure slopes, Arinto easily reaches an alcohol content 11-12 degrees and a good fixed acidity. It is this balance between the alcohol and the acid on the one hand, and the primary flavor intensely fruity and citrus fruits, which makes the wine this variety to be distinguished from the rest. These wines have great aging potential, with an interesting evolution in their first year of life, preserving the aromatic complexity for two or three years, what really characterizes them.

At trial, Arinto wines are very fresh, due to natural acidity, and very aromatically intense. It is perhaps the few portuguesass white varieties with strong personality which leads alone, balanced and distinctive wines.

The clarification of wine is a little time consuming.
